#Reverb15 – Day 2: Surprises

Day 2: surprises
What surprised you this year?

Surprises do not always come wrapped in delicate paper and adorned with beautiful bows.

Sometimes surprises are of the unwelcome variety -the kind that rips your heart out of your body and leaves you cold, numb and dead inside.

This year, it felt like we were the victims of hi jinx and bad luck. We would be flying high on elation only to have our happiness smashed to a million pieces. This happened several times.

The last being the most difficult to bear.

But on the flip side – there was the surprise of love. Friends/family responded to me/us with so much love, such caring – it blew me away. It lifted me and saw me through one of the darkest times I’ve experienced in my life. For that, I am forever grateful.

The kindness we afford one another when we want to – when it is needed – never ceases to surprise me. It’s a beautiful thing.

Reverb is a yearly writing challenge that takes place in December. Being the end of the year, it is the perfect time to reflect and think about all that we hold dear to us and to let go of those things that are weighing us down or holding us back. I hope you’ll join us as we share in this wonderful yearly ritual that has become so dear to so many – especially me.

  1. It so often seems that when our hearts are most tender with hurt that we can most clearly appreciate the gifts of kindness that are out there for us. I’m glad you found a measure of comfort in the love offered.
