Can I Just Say, “Ugh”?

This has not been a very productive week for me on any front. My three-year-old and I are both sick with colds and while (thankfully) her cold seems to be going away, I am not getting any better. I am really hoping it doesn’t turn into a full-blown sinus infection as it so often does this time of year. I have the worst time fighting off this sort of thing. I went to bed uber early last night – 10:30. Our typical bedtime is midnight so 10:30 is very early for me. But I woke up at 4:30 and here I am. So much for getting some extra sleep.

It has been a week of tissues, cough drops, Vicks, and cotton balls stuffed in my ears. Just to clarify – the cotton balls are the only things I’m stuffing in my ear. Tissues, cough drops and Vicks would be a bit odd to be cramming in my ears, wouldn’t you say? Not to mention a wee bit painful/uncomfortable? Ha. I still haven’t lost my sense of humor. So there’s that at least. šŸ˜›

The not so good part of it is that when you are sick – or at least when I am sick – I could give a fig what I eat. I haven’t been horrible but comfort food is what I crave when I am ill. Salads and sore throats – umm no thank you. Ice cream, despite-the- fact-that-I’m-trying-to-stay-away-from-dairy-but-when-I-have-a-sore-throat-I-sort-of-throw-all-caution-out-the-window? Ummm…YES!

On the workout front, I managed to get in three kettlebell workouts this week. Plus I’m doing my pistol practice as so prescribed in the book by Pavel Tsatsouline, “The Naked Warrior” which focuses on using only your own body weight to build strength. I’m using my piano bench for practicing the pistol which I will continue to use for several weeks until I am more steady.

For those of you who don’t know what the pistol is, here you go – as demonstrated by Pavel himself:Ā 

Once I get stronger, I’ll take it down a level (lower bench or chair) and work from that point and then lower and lower until I can do an actual pistol and then add a kettlebell to the mix. Sounds like fun, right?

My next thing I need to address is my wimpy push-up – which has always plagued me. My strength has always been in my legs. My upper body – not so much until I started using kettlebells. But, I WILL get the push-up down so that I am able to do one arm pushups when all is said and done. This is also broken down in “The Naked Warrior”.

Other than that I’ve been writing poetry, reading poetry and doing a lot of thinking. I’ll be ever so glad when I am over this cold and have my energy back. No time is a good time to be sick but it always seems so much worse in the summer when the weather is nice, you know?

UGH. There, I said it. UGH. šŸ™‚

  1. You know – for as crappy as I feel – the exertion helps clear out the congestion a bit. Not sure I’ll be doing any of that today though. Feeling crappier still and sneezing up a storm.

  2. I’m with Mark–when I’m sick the last thing I want to do is anything that isn’t staying in bed and bewailing/bemoaning my fate. You’re way tougher than me, cherie. I know this was a couple of days ago so I’m hoping you’re on the mend by now.

  3. You know, I don’t feel strong though. I feel rather weak right now even though I’m working out – they aren’t long or hard workouts – just enough to keep me moving and doing something. It’s hard. I miss it though and if I go too many days without doing it I get SOOO cranky! šŸ˜›
