Thoughts As I Drive Down a Street

Driving down a street I’ve never traversed.

This plain, old ordinary street…

Businesses, buildings, places I’ve never been or seen.

Didn’t know they existed – that they were here.

But they are.

And they were.

Most of the buildings – all too many – now just skeletons.

Empty shells of something more.

“Containers” of hope and prosperity.

Where did that hope go? Is it gone?

Replaced now with “for sale” signs.

Where are they now? Where did they go?

These people, these souls of ambition…

Did they relinquish their dream or move on to something better?

My hope is in the latter.

These things I wonder as I drive down this street.
