If you could start any type of new business, what would it be?
I actually have a business called Inky Twig LLC. I just haven’t been able to do much with it yet. Originally, it was supposed to be a freelance writing and political consulting business. But business has been slow and that is my fault. I have degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science and have worked in both fields.

The thing I loved about consulting in politics is working with people to help hone their message and steer them in the right direction – in a way that focuses on the voter and building a voter-centric campaign that is about the people.  To me, a successful and sincere campaign must always be about the people they hope to serve.

Really, what I would love to do with Inky Twig LLC is several things – create a news-oriented podcast, expand on my love of photography and weave it all together with my writing. I also like to dabble in web design. I’ve sort of veered away from the political scene as that entire arena has just become too dirty for my tastes – although I still have a passion for it and quite honestly, I feel like I have a natural ability in that area as well.

I would also like to create a magazine. All this would be under the Inky Twig “tree”.

So I wouldn’t really be starting a new business, but rather I would be getting my current one off the ground and running.

  1. Your response to this prompt is so similar to what I would write. Defining the direction of a business when you have such a variety of interests is (I think) the toughest part about running your own business.

I look forward to following the path your business takes.

  2. Firstly, I’m proud of you. You have a business and the fact that you have one at all means that the hardest part is out of the way. I have no doubt that things will pick up when you put your mind to it and start making the difficult decisions with how you want to market and expand your business. I’m looking forward to reading all about how it flourishes.

  3. I think this is fascinating. I abhor politics but it’s impossible to be aware of the world without understanding them. I wish more politicians were palatable to people who abhor politics, which is a greedy wish but one that I think would make a huge difference.

  4. The big problem with politics is the money. Take the need to spend big money or rather the insane “requirement” and I use that word loosely, to spend big money so that the common person can run and a lot of problems would be alleviated. Take away the lobbies. Take away the special interest. Get it back to the people, shaking the hand, common sense politics for the people by the people and you’ve got a good start. My opinion at least.
