December 14 – Appreciate

What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it?

Here is where I express gratitude for something that has become more dear to me this year than ever before.  Because this year, I really took notice of just how much the online community has come to mean to me.  The friendships, the contacts I’ve made online – through blogs, my writing group, Facebook, Twitter and now Reverb 10 amaze me and warm my soul.

These people – yes, that’s you – are a blessing to me.

It’s a new world where conversations are limitless and we are not held back by geographical differences and distances.

I learn so much from all these beautiful people I am fortunate enough to “meet”.   We build each other up. We inspire one another, praising and critiquing when necessary.

We vent, praying for just one voice – one person to hear our hurt or our joy and someone inevitably comes along and says, “I care. I’m here. I see you. I hear you. I hug you.”  And oftentimes, that is enough. Just to KNOW someone is there and “listening” – that can make all the difference.

We may never meet in this life – face to face. But our reach extends near and far as we stretch out to one another through long strands of fiber optic cable and we are connected in more ways than one.

We may disagree from time to time but as long as we continue to talk – to see beyond our differences – focus on that which binds us, connects us and listen to one another, we continue to grow and shape this online world we have created.  It’s a wonderful, magical thing and I appreciate it immensely. Thank you.

  1. Awwww I feel the same way. I was instant messaging a friend last night, and was thinking “we would never know these details about each others’ lives if we didn’t have Facebook!” I’m so glad you and I are back in touch. Your friendship means a lot to me. May you feel blessed today! 🙂 (You always ARE blessed, but today I pray you FEEL it!)

  2. What a beautiful response! Sometimes we just need to be heard in a way that is difficult in day to day interactions, and I truly believe in the power of blogging and online interactions for this. It provides a voice, a connection, and sometimes, as you said, that much needed hug.

    Happy Writing!
