“Writer’s Block” – that wonderful period of time where nothing comes to mind, where the creative hits a deadend and where frustration looms overhead like a dark thundercloud. It doesn’t last forever but it sure feels as though it does.
Some of us shirk it off while others allow it to define our day and our ability or lack of ability to commit words to the page.
We need to remember that we are in charge of that offensive block that stands between the screen/page/paper and us. We need to keep a sledgehammer of sorts with us for those moments where the blocks materialize so that we can smash the block(s) to smithereens and get on with our writing.
It’s about visualization. At least it is for me. I took this picture of cement blocks at my uncles’ property and use it as a visual aid for when I feel an attack of writer’s block coming my way. I picture myself smashing them up into little bits and pieces until they are nothing but dust.
I hope you have ways to work around those times of frustration. I would love to hear what you do to overcome writer’s block or whatever it is that stands in the way of creativity. Drop me a line!
Good writing and may the creative force be with you! HA! I know, totally cheesy – but I’m in that kind of mood today! Have a good one!
